Paarsse Charity Concert Supports Hiv/Aids Prevention, Care In Iran

The United Nations Information Centre in Tehran (UNIC) and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in cooperation with Paarsse Music Band staged a live charity concert at Eyvan-E-Shams Hall in Tehran on 27 and 28 January 2012. The purpose of holding the concert was to raise public awareness on HIV and AIDS, focusing on the vision of “Getting to Zero” HIV infections and the virtual elimination of mother-to-child transmission. The concert programme consisted of a repertoire of jazz, pop and classical songs performed in English and Farsi by Shahriar Mohammadpour, including Ave Maria (Cassini), O Sole Mio, Sorry, Hello, What a Wonderful World, Windmills of Your Mind, You Are My Everything, A Rainy Night in Paris, and Fly Me to The Moon as well as a selection of traditional Persian songs. All receipts went towards HIV/AIDS prevention and care in Iran.


UNIC Tehran holds workshop on finding UN information

The UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Tehran, held a workshop entitled "Finding UN Information" for 2 journalists from Jam-e Jam Newspaper on 17 January 2012 at UNIC Reference Library. The workshop was conducted by UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani. She elaborated on some basic facts about the UN, and how to find and retrieve UN information on the UN web site with a focus on "In the News", the UNIC web site with a focus on Press Releases, Dag Hammarskjold Library page on the web, the United Nations Bibliographic Information System (UNBISNET), MDGs, the Dag Hammarskjold Fund for Journalists, Journalists Fellowship Programme and the United Nations Correspondents Association(UNCA). Persian copies of UN Charter, UDHR and United Nations Today were distributed among the journalists.


Programme of Student Visits to UNIC-Tehran Continues

Effective 25 October 2004, as part of the UN Day celebrations on 24 October, UNIC-Tehran and UN Association of Iran started a programme of receiving groups of students from middle and high schools in Tehran regularly every Monday. The UNIC Director, the National Information Officer and the Reference Assistant brief them on the UN history and structure and description of the major organs and agencies of the UN. This is followed by a film on the UN and a question and answer session. In addition to the Persian version of UN publications such as the Millennium Development Goals, Image and Reality and Universal Declaration of Human Rights, are given to the students. Other schools interested in participating in this programme are welcome to contact UNIC-Tehran.
