UNIC-Tehran Reference Library
Hours of operation: Sunday to Thursday, 9:00am-3pm

A well-stocked and organized library is the main feature of UNIC-Tehran, as in other Centres around the world. It contains historic documents about the United Nations and its activities, including peacekeeping and peacemaking, human rights, economic and social developments, disaster relief, environment, election monitoring and other reference materials such as debates in the General Assembly and the Security Council and their resolutions, as well as reports, books and periodicals .
 
The operations of UNIC–Tehran were suspended in 1980. The Centre was reactivated in 1991, but the library did not become operational until 1993. The library is open to the public, with students, teachers, journalists, researchers, government officials and NGO representatives its main users.
 
UNIC-Tehran's Reference Library has on-line access to the United Nations HOMEPAGE, the Official Document System of the United Nations (ODS), the United Nations Bibliographic Information system (UNBIS), which is also available through CD-ROMs. An archive of CDs is also available in the library.
 
The Centre's library maintains a United Nations video collection in VHS format, which is available for use by broadcasting organizations, educational institutions and non-governmental organizations. The videos cover wide ranging subjects such as UN history, environment, population, social development and UN peacekeeping. The list of the videos and the latest edition of the United Nations Television and Video Catalogue are available in the library. A collection of photographs is also available. These include shots of UN headquarters, the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Secretaries-General and other senior officials, UN peacekeeping operations as well as functions that UNIC organizes in Tehran .
 
There are posters too. UNIC's current collection includes posters on “The UN works” , UN Conferences, international observances such as the year 2001 on Dialogue Among Civilizations which was designed and printed in Iran, etc.
 
Library services: The librarian is available to assist users in carrying our bibliographic and factual research, providing guidance in the use of databases, the web and other resources and in locating documents. Duplicate publications can be borrowed by the library user for one week. Users can photocopy 10 pages free of charge. Each library user should bring a recommendation letter from his/her work place or educational institution.
