SENIOR UN OFFICIAL TO VISIT IRAN TO DISCUSS HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS FOR BAM EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS

TEHRAN, 5 January (UNIC)— Mr. Jan Egeland, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and Emergency Relief Coordinator will arrive in Iran on the morning of 7 January.

Mr. Egeland will meet senior government officials and Representatives of the UN agencies in Tehran and on 8 January he will travel to Bam to meet with the Governor General of Kerman province and other provincial authorities as well as UN agencies and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) working in the area to discuss the ongoing humanitarian efforts in Bam.
