REGIONAL ASSESSMENT OF INT’L DECADE FOR EDUCATION FOR ALL TO BE HELD IN ISFAHAN
TEHRAN, 20 June 2006 (UNIC) – Education ministers, deputy ministers and experts from nine Asian countries, as well as from Iraq, and representatives of international organizations including United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) are among the participants invited to attend the regional mid-term assessment of the International Decade for Education for All which will take place from June 24-27 in Isfahan.
The Mid-Term Assessment is being hosted by the Iranian Ministry of Education in collaboration with UNESCO and ISESCO. It will take the form of a two-day experts’ meeting from 24-25 June followed by a two-day plenary Ministerial meeting to discuss the recommendations drafted by the education professionals, who have been drawn from UNESCO, ISESCO, UNICEF and national ministries of Education and UNESCO National Commissions. Both meetings are taking place in Isfahan, which was selected by ISESCO as the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World for 2006.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad will present the keynote speech at the Ministerial meeting, which will be held at the historic Abbasi Hotel in the heart of the old city of Isfahan. Countries invited are: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Malaysia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
