IRAN HAS 4.5M OLDER PERSONS--UN  

 

TEHRAN, 29 September 2006 (UNIC)--According to “Population Ageing 2006” wall chart of the Population Division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, population of Iranians aged 60 years or over stands at 4,562,000 which  constitutes 6 per cent of total population of Iran.

 

The chart indicates that by 2050, the number of older Iranians will reach to the figure of 26,393,000 that will constitute 26 per cent of the then total population of the country.

 

Life expectancy at the age of 60 in 2005-2010 for aged Iranian men and women will be 17 and 18 years, respectively. 

 

Meanwhile, the total number of older persons in the world reached to number of 687,923,000 in 2006 and the figure will be 1, 968,153,000 in 2050.

 

Among all countries of the world, Japan, Germany and Italy have the largest population of older persons while United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait have smallest population of older persons.
