AVIAN INFLUENZA WORKSHOP TO BE HELD IN TEHRAN
TEHRAN, 27 October 2006 (UNIC)—An Inception Workshop under Regional
Network on Avian Influenza in Central Asian Countries, will be held in Tehran
from 30 October to
02 November 2006.
Organized by the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Representation office in Tehran, representatives (mainly Chief Veterinary Officers) from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will participate in the workshop.
In addition to the above participants, four technical officers from the FAO Headquarters in Rome and one poultry officer from FAO Afghanistan will travel to Iran for the workshop. Also an Avian Influenza expert from International Organization for Animal Health (Office International des Epizooties-OIE) as well as another expert from FAO/OIE International Reference Laboratory will join this group.
The main objective of this Inception Workshop is to discuss the principles and strategic considerations developed under the Global Strategy for the progress control of Avian Influenza and the Strategic Framework for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) prevention and control in Asia and the Pacific for the Asian Development Bank. Those principles will lead to the promotion of surveillance activities at regional level and to the development of shared approaches for the prevention and control of HPAI.
It is likely that the requirements needed to carry out activities within a common framework will vary among countries and a sub-objective of the workshop is to identify needs to fulfill such requirements.
