Effective 25 October 2004, as part of the UN Day celebrations on 24 October, UNIC-Tehran and UN Association of Iran started a programme of receiving groups of students from middle and high schools in Tehran regularly every Monday. The UNIC Director, the National Information Officer and the Reference Assistant brief them on the UN history and structure and description of the major organs and agencies of the UN. This is followed by a film on the UN and a question and answer session. In addition to the Persian version of UN publications such as the Millennium Development Goals, Image and Reality and Universal Declaration of Human Rights, are given to the students. Other schools interested in participating in this programme are welcome to contact UNIC-Tehran.
UNIC NIO Moghadam briefed some 44 undergraduate students from Isfahan University who visited UNIC-Tehran on UN’s history and major organs as well as MDGs on 10 May 2011. He also briefed them on UNIC-Tehran’s activities and services which were followed by a question and answer session. Copies of the Persian versions of MDGs flyer, MDGs brochure, UDHR, UN Charter, UN Today and UN in Iran were given to them.
UNIC NIO Moghadam briefed some 32 undergraduate students from Rasht University who visited UNIC-Tehran on UN’s history and major organs as well as MDGs on 4 May 2011. He also briefed them on UNIC-Tehran’s activities and services which were followed by a question and answer session. Copies of the Persian versions of MDGs flyer, MDGs brochure, UDHR, UN Charter, UN Today and UN in Iran were given to them.
The Tehran Municipality and UNIC-Tehran organized a tree planting ceremony to mark the first International Day of Nowruz at Razi Park, in District 11, located in southern Tehran, on 1 May 2011. About 200 people, including the Mayor of the district Dr. Ali Asghar Khani, Head of Environment and Sustainable Development Office of Tehran Municipality Mr. Mohammad Hadi Heidarzadeh and other senior officials of Tehran Municipality and general public, attended the function. UNIC Director Sunil Narula delivered the Secretary-General’s message on the International Day of Nowruz. He was interviewed by IRIB and IRINN TV networks.
On 28 April 2011, the UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Tehran, together with the Shahid Ashrafi Isfahani University in Sepahan Shahr-Isfahan, held a workshop entitled “Finding UN Information” for 15 graduate students of international law, with their teacher, Ms. Zeinab Pourkhaghan, present. The workshop was conducted by the UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami. She elaborated on some basic facts about the UN, the definition of a document, UN documentation and how to find and retrieve UN information on the UN web site, the UNIC web site, the United Nations Bibliographic Information System (UNBISNET), UN Documentation Research Guide, Treaty Collection, Yearbook of the UN and other helpful sections available on the Dag Hammarskjold Library page on the web. Some UN publications were given to the students and to the library.
A seminar on the 17th Commemoration of the Genocide in Rwanda was jointly organized by UNIC-Tehran and the Iranian Association of UN Studies (IAUNS) on the theme of “United Nations and Support for Civilians: From Rwanda to Libya” at Tehran University on 27 April 2011. UNIC Director opened the ceremony by reading the SG�s message on the 17th Commemoration of the Genocide in Rwanda. More than 100 university students, professors and researchers took part in the seminar. Eminent specialists in international law, Dr. Jamshid Momtaz, former chairman of the International Law Commission, who teaches at Tehran University, Professor Ibrahim Beigzadeh from Shahid Beheshti University, Professor Homayoun Habibi from Allameh Tabatabaee University and Professor Hassan Savari, from Buali University in Hamedan and Ms. Shima Arabasadi, an outstanding student of international relations were the panelists in the seminar.

On the occasion of the International Women’s Day 2011, UNIC in cooperation with the Office of Environment and Sustainable Development of Tehran Municipality and with the support of the Gender Working Group (GWG) in Iran organized a tree planting ceremony at Parvaz Park in northern Tehran. Deputy Mayor of District 2 of Tehran, Mr. Seyyed Ahmad Safavi and Advisor to the Tehran Mayor and Head of the Office of Environment and Sustainable Development, Mr. Mohammad Hadi Heydarzadeh as well as Deputy Head of International Cooperation of Ministry of Education Dr. Gholam Reza Karimi, were present during the ceremony. UNIC Director, Mr. Sunil Narula delivered the SG’s message on the International Women’s Day 2011. The UNFPA Representative and Chairman GWG, Dr. Hulki Uz also participated in the tree plantation ceremony.

He also briefed them on UNIC-Tehran’s activities and services which were followed by a question and answer session. Later Reference Assistant Ms. Ghaemmaghami briefed the participants on UNIC’s library and its services, UN Depository Libraries as well as UNIC-Tehran’s website. Copies of the Persian versions of MDGs flyer, MDGs brochure, UDHR, UN Charter, UN Today and UN in Iran were given to them.

The workshop was conducted by the UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami. She elaborated on some basic facts about the UN, the definition of a document, UN documentation and how to find and retrieve UN information on the UN web site, the UNIC web site, OHCHR site, the United Nations Bibliographic Information System (UNBISNET), UN Documentation � Research Guide, Treaty Collection, Yearbook of the UN and other helpful sections available on the Dag Hammarskjold Library page on the web. Some UN publications were given to the library of the campus.
