Model UN preparation

The UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Tehran, together with the International Studies Journal (ISJ) held two separate workshops entitled “Model UN preparation” for some 36 graduate students of international relations and law as well as political science from different universities across Iran at UN conference room on 19th and 20th August 2013.

The students were among those who had registered for “The Model UN Security Council on Syria” which will be held on 19 September 2013. The session was conducted by UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani. She introduced Model UN Headquarters – The United Nations Cyberschoolbus, etc. and elaborated on some basic facts about the Security Council, tips for resolution writing, and how to retrieve latest news on Syria. Some parts of the UN Webcast on different Security Council meetings on Syria were displayed. UN Charter was distributed among the participants.

On voluntary basis, two university students who had experienced Model UN in Toronto University and Geneva International Model United Nations, namely Ms. Shirin Shahidi from University of Toronto and Mr. Alireza Shams Lahijani a graduate of Essex University drawing on their experiences, provided required skills to the delegations such negotiating, adopting and drafting resolutions.
