UN Information Centre in Iran invites Iranian students and other interested people to apply for this special opportunity to participate at the Model United Nations Conference at New York in the fall.

United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) in New York offers a unique opportunity to students and teachers who wish to learn about and experience the Model UN Conference (MUN) approach to simulating UN meetings of the General Assembly and Security Council.

DPI has announced the call of applications to the 3-day workshop organizing at UN Headquarters, New York from 6-9 November 2015. Information on application process and eligibility requirements is available on the UN website: http://outreach.un.org/mun/

The workshop will focus on giving students and MUN advisors a basic understanding of the General Assembly’s Rules of Procedure, the discussion and action phases of General Assembly Committee meetings, how to draft resolutions, the duties and responsibilities of the UN Secretariat and General Assembly officials. Participants would also learn about diplomatic negotiation processes that take place during informal meetings, how consensus is achieved, the Security Council’s Provisional Rules of Procedure, the different formats used for Security Council meetings and more. The aim of the workshops is to examine how Model UN simulations can more accurately capture the negotiation processes as it commonly occurs at the UN and contribute to the communications skills of participants.

Immediately following the workshop, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) will be organizing the WFUNA International Model UN, in partnership with the UN Department of Public Information from 10-14 November 2015. This Model UN conference for high school and university students is the only one in the world that fully implements the UN4MUN approach in all its simulations and offers participants a unique opportunity to see this approach in action. Students can register for WIMUN at www.wimun.org
