Get Featured and Celebrate UNESCO’s International Arts Education Week with Our Asia-Pacific Photo Activity

TEHRAN, 8 May 2013 (UNIC) –  In celebrating the 2nd UNESCO International Arts Education Week from 24 - 31 May, UNESCO Bangkok is inviting citizens from the Asia-Pacific region to submit photographs to illustrate the theme ‘Releasing the Power of the Arts’, in conjunction with the launch of a new UNESCO report, ‘Releasing the Power of the Arts – Exploring Arts Education in the Asia-Pacific’.

Photographs should aim to capture the ‘power of the arts’ whether at home, at school or within the community and can depict any art form, such as dance, drama, theatre, music, or the visual arts.  Through these photos you will be assisting us to demonstrate the diversity of cultural and creative expressions from across the Asia-Pacific region.

The photographs will be showcased on the UNESCO Bangkok Arts Education website and via UNESCO social media channels throughout the last week of May 2013. To see your featured photograph make sure you log on during this time.

We will be accepting photographs up until 31 May 2013.

UNESCO proclaimed the fourth week of May as International Arts Education Week to highlight the importance and usefulness of arts education towards dialogue, social cohesion and peace.

“Arts education provides youth with skills they will need beyond formal schooling: problem-solving, communication, the ability to develop new skills, to be innovative, flexible and adapt easily to change. The future rests in the hands of those equipped with both an education and the imagination to create,” said Gwang-Jo Kim, Director of UNESCO Bangkok.
